May 8, 2013, MONTPELIER, VT – Vermont College of Fine Arts  (VCFA), a national center for graduate education in the arts, announced today the establishment of MFA in Film Scholarships – a new initiative intended to support the education of emerging independent filmmakers.

Ted Deppe, '89W, and Annie Deppe are hosting Curlew 4, a writers' week in Ireland for writers who have already earned an  MFA or otherwise demonstrated their seriousness. Suzanne Strempek Shea, fiction/creative non-fiction writer, will take part in the trip, as well as leading Irish writers. The conference will take place from October 11-18, 2013 in Howth, a beautiful seaside village just north of Dublin. Anyone who would like information and an application should email Ted Deppe.

Ellen Cassedy's We Are Here: Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust (University of Nebraska Press) won the Grub Street National Prize for Non-fiction. Ellen will do a reading and workshop at Grub Street's Muse and the Marketplace conference in Boston Park Plaza Hotel, May 3-5, 2013. Ellen recently returned from a book tour in Lithuania, where her book has been published in Lithuanian by Media Incognito/Obuolys.

Michael Klein, '91W, and Will Schutt will host a reading at KGB Bar in New York City for their Monday Night Poetry. Klein's new book is The Talking Day (Sibling Rivalry Press). Will Schutt’s first manuscript, Westerly, was chosen by Carl Phillips for the 2012 Yale Younger Prize. Loretta De Grandis, '04VA, produced a body of work "Feline Pleasures" that will show at Jana's Red Room in Las Vegas, NV. The show is mainly a study of cats, their pleasures, whimsey, mystery and the color they bring to the world around them. Read the full press release here.

Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing Program alums Wally Lamb, '84, and Suzanne Levine, '83, along with Lary Bloom, are the 2013 facilitators in the exclusive Praiano Writers Conference in Praiano, Italy on the Amalfi Coast.  Limited to a dozen writers of various genres, this six-day seminar will be held March 17-23, 2013.
