Congressman Peter Welch will host the 31st annual Congressional Art Competition today at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Founded by former Senator Jim Jeffords in 1981, the competition is a unique forum for Vermont's high school artists to showcase their talent and abilities. The winning piece of artwork from Vermont will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Visual Art Program faculty Co-Chair Ashley Hunt is exhibiting as part of the Museum of Modern Art's Performance Program series in New York City. The show, titled 9 Scripts from a Nation at War, is a 10-channel video installation recently acquired by MoMA, and marks the first work for which artists Andrea Geyer, Sharon Hayes, Ashley Hunt, Katya Sander, and David Thorne have collaborated. Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Visual Art Program alumna Debra Arter's piece "Hot Date" (paper lithograph) will be a part of HERstorically Speaking, a juried exhibition sponsored by the National Association of Women Artists.  The exhibition will take place from March 25 - May 23, 2012 at Johnson and Johnson World Headquarters Gallery, New Brunswick New Jersey.. Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Visual Art Program alumnus David French is part of a group exhibition at New Jersey Arts Incubator Gallery in West Orange, NJ. The show is titled Mudluscious , the name taken from the poem “In Just" by American poet E. E. Cummings, "proposes a poetic investigation of fertile ground both earthly and as embodied by the artist's imagination." It opens on Friday, May 4 and runs through May 25, 2012. Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Visual Art faculty member Carlos Motta has a solo exhibition at New York City's New Museum. The multi-part project titled Museum as Hub: Carlos Motta: We Who Feel Differently, explores the idea of sexual and gender “difference” after four decades of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, and Questioning politics. Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Visual Art alumna Krisanne Baker's new video short Content Aware Anxieties will be part of the Petroleum Paradox exhibition at the Denise Bibro Fine Art Gallery on west 20th Street in New York City. The show runs from May 24-June 23, 2012 and Krisanne's film on the dangers of 'fracking' will be shown on May 24th from 6 - 8 p.m.
