New and continuing students are required to reside in campus dormitories during the residencies. This encourages cohesiveness and a sense of community, both of which are central to the learning experience. Mealtimes in the cafeteria, operated by the New England Culinary Institute, also provide opportunity for dialogue and communication between faculty, students, and visitors.

The T.W. Wood Gallery and Arts Center was founded in 1897 by Thomas Waterman Wood, a native of Montpelier, and it has served as a cultural focus for the area for many years. The Wood presents a range of exhibitions, lectures, and educational offerings by artists of local and national interest. By protecting and displaying its impressive permanent collection, presenting a comprehensive range of exhibits by both historical and contemporary artists, and educating and enriching both the artistic community and the public, the T.W. Wood Gallery and Arts Center is a centerpiece of both cultural heritage and contemporary artist activity in the region.
