Madeleine Kunin (Honorary Trustee) (Burlington, VT) was the first female Governor of Vermont, 1985-1991, and the fourth female governor elected in the U.S. In the Clinton administration, she was Deputy Secretary of Education, 1993-96, and Ambassador to Switzerland, 1996-99.

She was part of a three-member transition team which recommended Al Gore for Vice President. In 1991 she founded The Institute for Sustainable Communities and is a Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont. She is the author of Pearls, Politics and PowerHow Women Can Win and Lead (2008), Living a Political Life (1994), and The Big Green Book (1975). She does commentaries for Vermont Public Radio and has a blog on Huffington Post.
