Andrew Nicholls grew up in England and Canada.

With his writing partner Darrell Vickers, he has written for performers including Mickey Rooney, Rodney Dangerfield and George Carlin. Since 1976, Nicholls and Vickers have sold 75 pilot scripts, of which 40 have been produced, and 26 have gone to series. In their twenties, Nicholls and Vickers began writing for Johnny Carson. They were the head writers of The Tonight Show from 1988 to 1992. Nicholls began writing fiction in 2010. His stories have appeared in Black ClockThe Boiler JournalNew World WritingThe Santa Monica ReviewCosmonauts Avenue and elsewhere. He is the author of the showbiz autobiography Valuable Lessons. He has 4 Emmy nominations, and a 2008 Canadian Genie for Best Pre-School Show. He is working on a stage musical and a novel.
