Joy Castro is the author of the short fiction collection How Winter Began, the post-Katrina New Orleans literary thrillers Hell or High Water and Nearer Home, and the memoirs The Truth Book and Island of Bones.

A PEN Center USA Literary Award finalist and winner of the Nebraska Book Award, she edited Family Trouble: Memoirists on the Hazards and Rewards of Revealing Family. She teaches creative writing, literature, and Latino studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
