Sabine Hoffmann, ACE, began her journey to becoming a film editor in Berlin, studying art, philosophy and film history. She hosted a lecture called the Spotlight on Editing.
In the United States, Hoffman has edited independent feature films for over 20 years, including Rebecca Miller’s films PERSONAL VELOCITY (winner of the John Cassavettes Award), THE BALLAD OF JACK AND ROSE (starring Daniel Day Lewis), and THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE (starring Robin Wright, Blake Lively, and Keanu Reeves). She edited Morgan J. Freeman’s DESERT BLUE and HURRICANE STREETS, THE DAY THE PONIES COME BACK, directed by Jerry Schatzberg and Harlem Aria (winner of three Audience Awards). Other credits include SAVING FACE, directed by Alice Wu (starring Joan Chen), OFF THE BLACK directed by James Ponsoldt (starring Nick Nolte) and THE DRY LAND (with America Ferrara and Melissa Leo) and X/Y, both directed by Ryan Piers Williams.
BROTHER TO BROTHER (starring Anthony Mackie) started an ongoing collaboration with Director Rodney Evans (winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the Gordon Parks award, the Grand Jury, Audience and Best Actor awards at Outfest, and the Showtime Vanguard award), continuing with Mr Evans’ THE HAPPY SAD and currently preparing for MR EVANS’ DAY DREAM. She recently completed Richard LaGravenese’s THE LAST FIVE YEARS (starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan), Cherien Dabis’ MAY IN THE SUMMER and Sean Gullette’s TRAITORS. Hoffman has served as a consultant and story advisor and also edited numerous documentary films, including Academy Award® nominated Ferry Tales and THE PARTY IS OVER (with Philip Seymour Hoffman) as well as THE TWELVE DISCIPLES OF NESON MANDELA.
